Teaching & Learning at Findlay City Schools

The Findlay City Schools Teaching and Learning framework provides a rigorous and enriched educational experience for our students, from the first day of preschool to the graduation stage. Our mission: Academic excellence, diverse opportunities, and true belonging for 100% of our students.

In our preschool, primary (Grades K-2), and intermediate (Grades 3-5) schools, we prioritize the building blocks of lifelong success. Literacy instruction is grounded in the Science of Reading to ensure every student masters the mechanics of language. We move beyond formulas to help students understand the logic and application of math in the real world.

Middle school (Grades 6-8) teaching and learning bridges foundational skills and advanced application. Students begin to explore elective courses that align with their interests. Hands-on learning environments encourage students to solve complex problems through science, technology, engineering, and math, and grow their literacy skills into even deeper critical thinking.

Findlay High School is where preparation meets opportunity, as we produce life-ready graduates who will positively impact the community. Students can select from a large variety of courses, focus-areas, and electives aligned to their future plans. Our students graduate with state-recognized seals in areas like Biliteracy, Science, and Technology, proving their readiness for the global economy. Our close connection with Millstream Career Center allows for even more robust opportunities in Career Technical education.

Teaching & Learning Department

The Department of Teaching and Learning supports the mission of providing excellent education and individual attention to all students. We support teachers in the continuous improvement of their knowledge and skills. The department oversees all aspects of the PK-12 curriculum and teacher/administrator professional development. Our goal is to provide resources and a rigorous curriculum that meet students’ individual academic needs and empower graduates for success beyond high school.  In addition, teachers should have the strategies and tools they need to ensure our students achieve academic success. The department works collaboratively with teachers at all levels to facilitate the development and implementation of curriculum aligned with Ohio’s Learning Standards for all academic areas.
